First edition, third printing. Signed by Ted Williams in black marker on the front free endpaper. Publisher's white cloth-backed blue paper-covered boards, with spine lettered in red and blue; in its original dust jacket designed by Milton Charles, with a photo of Williams holding a bat to front panel, lettered in red and blue. Good or better book, with some sunning to board edges, and 1.25" x 4" rectangle cut out of top portion of front free endpaper (the same leaf that's signed by Williams), presumably to excise a signature; very good unclipped dust jacket, with light toning to spine, and some wear to spine ends and panel edges. Overall, a solid copy signed by one of the all-time baseball greats. Ted Williams, who played his entire 19-year MLB career with the Red Sox, was one of the best hitters of all time, if not the best. He was a 2x AL MVP (1946, 1949), 6x AL batting champion, and 4x AL home run leader. Perhaps Williams' greatest claim to fame is that he was the last player to hit over .400 in a season, hitting .406 in 1941. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966 and was selected for the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999. Off the field, Williams was an avid outdoorsman and world-class fly fisherman; he was inducted into the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame, making him one of only a handful of professional athletes to be inducted into more than one sports Hall of Fame.
