First edition, first printing, with 2 pages of ads to rear. Publisher's light gray cloth, with front board and spine lettered, ruled, and decorated in brown; lacking the scarce original dust jacket. Very good or better, with minimal fading to spine, light rubbing to spine ends, corners lightly bumped, and some offsetting to endpapers. Overall, a solid copy of this very early Christie title. Agatha Christie's 1924 novel The Man in the Brown Suit follows Anne Beddingfeld, the orphaned daughter of a famous archeologist, who witnesses a man die in a London Underground station. At the scene, Anne finds a clue dropped by a man in a brown suit, which she follows all the way to South Africa, where she gets entangled in an international diamond heist. The novel was in part informed by a year-long round-the-world trip Agatha Christie and her first husband took in 1922. It was originally serialized between November 1923 and January 1924 in the London Evening News under the title Anna, the Adventurous. The book introduces Colonel Race, a character who would appear in three more Christie novels: Cards on the Table (1936), Death on the Nile (1937), and Sparkling Cyanide (1945), the first two of which are Poirot novels.
