Near fine set, with some rubbing and toning to spines, corners gently rubbed to boards, contemporary ownership bookplate to front pastedowns, engraving inserted in a window cut to front free endpapers, Vol. II with an open tear to margin of p. 19, and bottom corners of pp. 60-70 slightly dog-eared. Rob Roy is an historical novel that tells the story of Frank Osbaldistone, an Englishman who travels to Northumberland during the 1715 Jacobite Rebellions to restore his father's wealth and honor and marry the woman he's fallen in love with. Along the way, Frank meets the novel's hero, Rob Roy MacGregor, a gentlemanly outlaw and the notorious leader of the Highlanders, who assists Frank in his quests. Scott based his titular hero on the Rob Roy of Scottish folklore, who is sometimes referred to as the "Scottish Robin Hood."
