First edition, first printing. Signed by the author and four Cleveland Indians players on the front free endpaper: Bob Lemon (HOF), Gene Bearden, Jim Hegan, and Mickey Vernon. Publisher's red cloth, with spine lettered in silver foil; in its original red pictorial dust jacket, with jacket photograph by Herman Seid, lettered in black and white. Near fine book, with a hint of wear to head of spine, and some offsetting to endpapers; good price-clipped dust jacket, with mild wear to head of spine, some spotting to panels and flaps (primarily to rear panel), pink staining to rear panel, a small chip to top edge of rear panel, and some tearing along machine-clipped upper corner of rear flap. Overall, a bright copy. Legendary pitcher Bob Lemon (1920-2000) played his entire 15-year professional career with the Cleveland Indians. He first signed with the Indians for $100 a month when he was 17 years old. In his illustrious playing career, he made seven all-star appearances, was a 3x AL wins leader, and won a World Series in 1948. In 1978, thirty years after winning a World Series title as a player, he led the Yankees to a title as the team's manager. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976. Gene Bearden also won a title with the Indians in 1948, Jim Hegan was a 5x All-Star and 3x World Series champion (1948, 1961, 1962), and Mickey Vernon was a 7x All-Star, 2x AL batting champion, and 1960 World Series champion.
