Later edition. Finely bound in contemporary brown sheepskin with five raised bands to spine, compartments stamped in gilt, brown morocco spine label lettered in gilt, red text block edges. A very good copy with some rubbing and wear to extremities and front board, front hinge cracked but holding, spotting to front pastedown, four faded rubber stamps to front free endpaper, loss to outer edge of front free endpaper where the paper stuck to the front pastedown, rear free endpaper with one faded rubber stamp, rear endpaper with pencil and ink notes covering the entire page. Esprit Fléchier was a preacher and orator most famous for his passionate funeral speeches. This volume includes his funeral orations for the Duchess of Montausier, Madame d'Aiguillon, Monsieur de Turenne, Maria Theresa of Austria, Chancellor Le Tellier, Madame la Dauphine, and Monsieur de Montausier. He was known for his witty, honest style, and for delivering fair portraits of those being honored.
