Additionally signed by McGuinness on title page. Publisher's white and red stiff paper wrappers, with illustration to front wrapper attributed to Marcus Swan. About fine, with just some light marks to spine ends, spine and rear wrapper. Overall, a lovely copy. The Hanging Gardens centers around novelist and domineering patriarch, Sam Grant, who is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. In turn, Sam's wife and three children - Jane, Charlie, and Rachel - struggle with loneliness and lovelessness. The Hanging Gardens premiered at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin on October 9th, 2013. Born in County Donegal, Ireland, McGuinness is the author of many successful plays, including The Factory Girls (1982), Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme (1985), and Someone Who'll Watch Over Me (1992). This copy is inscribed by McGuinness to Alan Rickman and his partner, Rima Horton. In 2012, Alan Rickman starred in Frank McGuinness' adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's John Gabriel Borkman at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). A classically trained actor, Rickman is best known for his roles as Hans Gruber Die Hard (1988), Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film series (2001-2011), and Harry in Love Actually (2003).
