Publisher's quarter black morocco and red-brown cloth, stamped to front board in gilt with author's facsimile signature, lettered in gilt to spine, black endpapers; in the original matching red-brown slipcase. A near fine copy, spine gilt with some discoloration. Based on the First Folio edition of 1623, this special edition of King Henry IV was published as the fourth volume in a series of annual Shakespearian keepsakes prepared for the friends of the publishers. Both histories, these two plays are based on the life and times of King Henry IV of England, and, although they were written as separate, complimentary productions, they are often performed together. The First and Second Parts of King Henry IV comprises the second and third volumes in Shakespeare's historical tetralogy that also includes King Richard II and King Henry V.
