Publisher's quarter black morocco and pale green cloth, stamped to front board in gilt with author's facsimile signature, lettered in silver to spine, black endpapers; in the original pale green cloth slipcase. A near fine copy, tiny tear to the leather at spine head, and small white mark to spine. Based on the First Folio edition of 1623, this special edition of Antony and Cleopatra was published as the tenth volume in a series of annual Shakespearian keepsakes prepared for the friends of the publishers. Shakespeare based this play on the tragic romance of Egyptian Pharaoh Cleopatra VII and Roman politician and general Marcus Antonius. Along with Julius Cæsar and Coriolanus, Antony and Cleopatra draws much inspiration from Sir Thomas North's translation of Plutarch's Lives.
