The Complete Works

Hard Cover. London, Oxford, and Toronto: Henry Frowde, 1963. Very Good.

Later edition. Illustrated in black and white with scenes from various plays. Red cloth and quarter vellum spine, stamped in gilt with red morocco labels, top edge gilt, printed on India paper. A very good copy with toning to extremities and front board, light rubbing to edges, page edges toned, otherwise clean and in a tight, strong binding. This volume contains the complete works of the playwright and poet William Shakespeare. Shakespeare's 36 plays include various comedies, histories, and tragedies. His earlier plays, aside from the oft-referenced tragedy Romeo and Juliet, were primarily histories, including King Henry VI (Parts I, II and III), Richard II and Henry V, as well as his portrayal of Roman political turmoil in Julius Caesar; and comedies, including The Merchant of Venice and Much Ado About Nothing. Later in his career, Shakespeare began writing darker comedies and tragedies, including the famous Macbeth and Antony and Cleopatra.
