First edition first printing. Signed and dated by King in blue pen on the front free endpaper: "Stephen King 10/26/84". The book was released on November 8, 1984, two weeks after the inscribed date. Publisher's red cloth-backed black paper-covered boards, with spine lettered in gilt and black; in its original black dust jacket with shattering design to panels, lettered in red and yellow. Near fine book, with light rubbing to spine, mild scuffing to rear board, and a few page corners creased; near fine unclipped dust jacket, with some fading to spine, light wear to spine ends, and a small closed tear to bottom edge of front panel. Overall, a sturdy copy. In The Talisman, 12-year-old Jack Sawyer is desperate to save his mother, who's dying of cancer. Jack meets a man named Speedy Parker who tells him about a parallel medieval universe called The Territories, which is home to a magical item, the Talisman, that could save his mother. Co-written by two masters of horror, Stephen King (The Shining, The Stand, It) and Peter Straub (Ghost House, Koko), the book was a massive success. The two wrote a sequel, Black House (2001), and a third entry titled Other Worlds than These is scheduled for release at the end of 2026, which King wrote while referencing the late Straub's notebook of ideas.
