Diary of One Who Vanished is a song cycle written by Leos Janácek in 1917-1919, and based on a series of poems published anonymously in a newspaper by Ozef Kalda. The poems tell of a farmer boy who falls deeply in love with a mysterious woman named Zefka and leaves home to be with her. Nobel Prize-winning poet Seamus Heaney was commissioned by The English National Opera to produce a new English translation of the song cycle for a series of international performances. The production premiered at Gaiety Theatre in Dublin on October 15th, 1999. Item #SH025
