Vickrey, Robert. Hard Cover. Garden City, New York: Doubleday and Company, 1957. First Edition. Very Good / Dust Jacket Included.
First edition. Inscribed twice by the author; to half title: "Bruce: / Ray Bradbury" and to title page: "Alex / Ray Bradbury / 8/29/86". Publisher's yellow cloth, lettered in pale blue and black to spine; in the original pictorial dust jacket designed by Robert Vickrey. A very good copy, some toning to extremities and bit of wear to spine ends; in a very good dust jacket with some wear to extremities and a few tiny chips to corners, rubber stamp reading "Bruce D. Tinkel" to front free endpaper. Overall, a nice, bright copy signed twice by the author. Dandelion Wine is a semi-autobiographical novel that tells the story of Douglas Spaulding, a resident of Green Town, Illinois, a fictional small town based on Bradbury's hometown of Waukegan. Specifically it follows Spaulding's episodic adventures during "three months of unguessed wonders." Notably, Dandelion Wine is the first in a series of four books set in Green Town and is followed by its companion text Something Wicked This Way Comes (1962); while Dandelion Wine is a story of two 12 year old boys during one blissful summer, Something Wicked This Way Comes is about two 13 year old boys during one hauntingly terrifying autumn. Bradbury inscribed this copy to Bruce D. Tinkel, a writer and noted science fiction and horror collector.
