In the 1930 World Series, the defending champion Philadelphia Athletics defeated the St. Louis Cardinals four games to two. It marked the last of five World Series titles won by Athletics manager Connie Mack, who oversaw the team for fifty years (1901-1950). Both teams were loaded with future Hall of Famers, including Mickey Cochrane, Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove, Al Simmons, and Eddie Collins for the Athletics, and Jim Bottomley, Dizzy Dean, Frankie Frisch, Burleigh Grimes, Chick Hafey, and Jesse Haines for the Cardinals. The following year, in 1931, the Cardinals exacted revenge on the Athletics by defeating them in seven games in a World Series rematch. Item #PASTL001
