Official Souvenir Program, World Series 1921 (Giants vs. Yankees)
Price: $1,500.00
Original Wrappers. [No Place]: Harry M. Stevens, 1921. First Edition. Good.
First edition, first printing. Publisher's white and gray wrappers, with portraits of John McGraw and Miller Huggins to front wrapper, lettered in orange, red, and green. Good unscored program, with some splitting along spine, some marks, creases, and edgewear to wrappers, and soiling to a few pages. Overall, a complete copy of this very hard-to-find program. The year 1921 marked the first all-New York World Series matchup, with the AL Yankees facing off against the NL Giants. At that time, the two teams still shared the same ballpark - The Polo Grounds. Interestingly, that World Series was the final one to feature a best-of-nine format (the best-of-nine format had previously been used in 1903, 1919, and 1920). The Giants won the series 5-3, but the win marked the true beginning of the Yankees dynasty, as the Yankees appeared in the World Series again the next year, and then won their first of many championships the following year, in 1923. The 1921 Yankees were led by Babe Ruth, Waite Hoyt, and Carl Mays, while the Giants were led by Frankie Frisch, Dave Bancroft, and Ross Youngs. Item #NYY004
