Photograph. 1965. Near Fine.
Original 9 ¾" x 6 ¾" b/w photo. Photo of Martin Luther King speaking with his hand raised at a podium at the World Affairs Council in Los Angeles, attributed on verso of photo to L. A. photojournalist Ernest Reshovsky. Very good or better photo, with light rubbing to edges, a small tear to top left of photo, and "Martin Luther King" written in black ink to verso. Overall, a powerful photo of King speaking with force. A Christian minister known for his efforts as a civil rights leader and proponent of nonviolent protest, King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 and continues to be regarded as an influential figure and symbol of anti-racism movements in the United States. One of the most important orators in American history, some of his most influential speeches include "I Have a Dream" (1963), "Beyond Vietnam" (1967), and "I've been to the Mountaintop" (1968). This photo of King speaking at a luncheon at the Hollywood Palladium was taken on February 26th, 1965, weeks before he led the historic march from Selma, Alabama for voting rights. Item #MLK008
