Visions of Kerouac; A Play

Price: $200.00

Hard Cover. Boston / Toronto: Little, Brown and Company, 1977. First Edition. Very Good / Dust Jacket Included.

First edition, first printing. Signed and inscribed by Duberman on front free endpaper: "Best wishes, / Martin Duberman / Oct. 1, 1977". Publisher's black cloth, with spine lettered in gilt; in its original pictorial dust jacket designed by Fader, Jones and Zarkades, with a drawing of Kerouac to front panel, lettered in black. Very good or better book, with some soiling to boards; about fine unclipped dust jacket, with light soiling. Overall, a fresh copy. In Duberman's Author's Note, he writes, "Visions of Kerouac is an amalgam of my words and Jack Kerouac's...I've aimed at truth of mood, not truth of fact. The play is a meditation on Kerouac's life - much as his book Visions of Cody is a meditation on Neal Cassady's." The play debuted off-Broadway at the Lion Theater Company on December 3, 1976. Interestingly, some of the characters in the play are the thinly fictionalized characters from Kerouac's books, like Cody Pomeray (alter ego of Neal Cassady). Item #MDU001
