Hard Cover. London: John Murray, 1823. Early Edition. Very Good.
Early edition. Five volumes. Original publisher's brown paper over blue paper-covered boards with tan spine label. A very good set with some wear and sunning to spines, as well as toning to page edges. Each volume with previous owner's rubber stamp within first few pages of text; volume I with the front hinge starting; volumes III-V with spines starting and fragile, but intact. Overall, a very attractive set in the original publisher's bindings. Uncommon in this condition. This collection of works is one of several editions published after the first in 1819. The first two volumes comprise Byron's well-known narrative poem Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, a semi-autobiographical work originally published in four parts between 1812 and 1818. Volumes III-V contain several shorter works, including the short lyric poem "She Walks in Beauty," and the narrative poem, "Mazeppa." This particular set was published the year before Byron's death in 1824.
