This new edition of Kay Thompson's works includes the text of the first four Eloise books in one volume, Eloise: A Book for Precocious Grown Ups (1955), Eloise in Paris (1957), Eloise at Christmastime (1958) and Eloise in Moscow (1959). Eloise, like the author herself, is vivacious, charming, and spunky; Thompson herself was an actress and singer, as well as one of the first women to wear fashionable pants - a bold move in the 1940s. Indeed, while many cite her goddaughter Liza Minnelli as an inspiration for the character, Thompson insists that she, also a resident of the Plaza, largely based Eloise on herself.
