Chopping, Richard. Hard Cover. London: Jonathan Cape, 1964. First Edition. Near Fine / Dust Jacket Included.
First edition, first impression, first state, in Gilbert's Binding B. Publisher's dark gray cloth stamped to front board in gilt with seven Japanese characters, lettered in metallic silver to spine, bamboo-patterned endpapers; in the original pictorial dust jacket designed by Richard Chopping with an illustration of a poisonous toad, a dragonfly, and a pink chrysanthemum on a bamboo platform. A near fine book with a few faint scratches to rear board; in a very good dust jacket with some toning to top edge, light wear to spine head and upper corners, a faint red stain to left margin of blurb on rear panel. Overall, a pleasing copy. Gilbert A12a (1.2) You Only Live Twice is "perhaps the most bizarre and doom-fraught of all James Bond's adventures." It is the final installation in the trilogy featuring the villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld, leader of the spy organization SPECTRE. After Blofeld murders Bond's young bride in the preceding On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1963), M throws the disheartened 007 into what seems like an impossible mission in Japan where he will once again encounter his nemesis. You Only Live Twice is the last Bond novel to be published during the author's lifetime.
