Mega Maid Face Prop (Spaceballs)

Mega Maid Face Prop (Spaceballs)

Beverly Hills: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1987. Near Fine.

9 x 12 3/4 x 5 in. At the climax of Mel Brooks' Star Wars spoof Spaceballs, the immense villainous spaceship, Spaceball I, transforms into Mega Maid, a giant robot woman with a vacuum cleaner designed to suck 10,000 years of fresh air from planet Druidia’s atmosphere. Bounty hunter hero Lone Starr reverses Mega Maid’s sucking mechanism with the power of a supernatural force called “the Schwartz” and all of the air is returned to Druidia. To destroy Mega Maid, however, Lone Starr must do battle with his nemesis Dark Helmet, the commander of Spaceball I. The ship ultimately self-destructs, and Mega Maid's head crash lands on the Planet of the Apes. This face prop appears during Mega Maid’s metamorphosis and subsequent destruction. This prop was created by Apogee Inc. as part of their visual effects work on the film, and was previously owned by matte photographer Mark Sawicki, who did Illusion Arts on Spaceballs.
