Original publisher's brown cloth, lettered in black; dust jacket with black and white photograph of Mays to the front panel, lettered in orange, black and white. Near fine with some light rubbing to the extremities; dust jacket with price sticker removal to front flap, spine worn with some loss to the upper spine, several small creases and short tears along the edges, else about very good. Willie Mays, Modest Champion is a biography of one of the greatest players in MLB history. Drafted by the Giants after graduating high school in 1950, Mays would go on to be a 24-time All-Star and win 12 Golden Glove awards. His over-the-shoulder catch in the 1954 World Series, which his team would go on to win, is one of the most iconic moments in sports history. The author, Gene Schoor, wrote a number of books, primarily "juvenile" sports biographies, over a span of five decades.
