This baseball compendium "relates the entire game-by-game history of the World Series from the first interleague contest in 1882, through the Temple Cup Series, and from the start of the modern World Series in 1902 to the present day." Frederick G. Lieb (1888-1980) was a sportswriter and baseball historian who covered every World Series between 1911 and 1958 and more than 8,000 MLB games in a career that spanned nearly 70 years. In 1973, he received the prestigious J. G. Taylor Spink Award, and the following year he was inducted into the writer's wing of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Lieb famously dubbed Yankee Stadium "the house that Ruth built." Lawrence Ritter (1922-2004) was an economics and baseball writer who wrote The Glory of Their Times, an oral history of baseball that is considered one of the greatest books on the sport of all time, and co-wrote The Image of Their Greatness (1979) and The 100 Greatest Baseball Players of All Time (1981) with Donald Honig.
