Finely bound in green calf prize binding, school emblem in gilt to front board, five raised bands to spine, ruled and lettered in gilt, orange title label to spine, board edges and turn-ins decorated in blind, top edge gilt, prize label affixed to front pastedown, and pale marbled endpapers. Near fine, with some toning to spine, board edges, and endpaper margins, a touch of wear to spine and corners, and small bookseller's label to front pastedown. Overall, a clean and lovely copy. This book examines the relationship between poetry and art in Greece, with particular attention paid to artistic renderings of vases to illustrate scenes and themes in poetic works. According to the book's preface, the work was adapted from a 1931 University College course called "the Yates Lectures."
