Hard Cover. London: Martin Secker, 1932. 1st Edition. Near Fine / Dust Jacket Included.
First edition. One of 5,000 copies. Publisher's chocolate brown cloth, lettered in gilt; in the original white dust jacket, lettered in red-orange. Near fine, with some light spotting to boards and top edge, bookseller's plate to the rear pastedown, a hint of offsetting to the free endpapers, otherwise bright and clean pages; unclipped dust jacket, with some toning and light creasing to the spine, a few minor nicks to the spine head and edges of the front panel, closed tear to the bottom edge of the rear panel, light soiling to the otherwise clean panels. A tight and pleasing copy. Roberts A63. The Lovely Lady is a posthumously published collection of eight short stories. Specifically, it includes "The Lovely Lady," "The Rocking-Horse Winner," "Rawdon's Roof," "Mother and Daughter," "The Blue Moccasins," "Things," "The Overtone," and "The Man Who Loved Islands." Notably, this volume collects some of the last fiction Lawrence wrote prior to his death in 1930. Interestingly, although the first edition of The Lovely Lady is copyrighted 1932, it was not published until January 1933.
