This ghost-written booklet comes from a set of four “How to…” baseball booklets: How to Knock Home Runs, How to Play the Infield, How to Throw Curves, and How to Play the Outfield. The booklets came out of a deal that Babe Ruth made with Quaker Oats near the end of his playing career: customers could receive them through mail order by redeeming Quaker Oats box tops. It also includes an illustration of Ruth eating cereal on the last page, alongside an advertisement for Quaker Puffed Wheat and Puffed Rice. How to Knock Home Runs includes about 20 pages of batting tips, with chapters like “Selection of Bats,” “The Value of Timing,” and “Stance and Grip.” How to Play the Infield includes about 20 pages of infielding tips, with chapters like “Stance,” “Teamwork,” and “Keeping Runners Close.” How to Throw Curves includes about 20 pages of pitching tips, with chapters like “Acquiring Control,” “Warming Up,” and “The Wind-Up.” How to Play the Outfield includes about 20 pages of outfielding tips, with chapters like “Getting into Position,” “Saving your Arm,” and “Throwing to the Plate.”.
