First edition, first printing. Publisher's black cloth-backed paper-covered boards, spine lettered in gilt, deckled fore edge; in the original gold, red, and white dust jacket designed by Carol Devine Carson featuring three ivory cameos. Overall, a clean copy. Blackwood Farm, the ninth installation in Anne Rice's thirteen-book series The Vampire Chronicles, continues the united storyline with characters from Lives of the Mayfair Witches that Rice introduced in Merrick (2000). The young vampire Tarquin Blackwood asks Lestat for assistance in freeing himself of a malevolent spirit named Goblin. Lestat calls upon Merrick Mayfair of the Mayfair family of witches to exorcize Goblin, sparking a torrid romance between Quinn and Mona Mayfair. In a review of Blackwood Farm, Publishers Weekly criticizes the two-dimensionality of Rice's characters in this installation but explains, "it's intrigue, eroticism and obsession that fans want, and they'll find plenty of all three."
