Travels with My Aunt

Price: $175.00

Hard Cover. London: The Bodley Head, 1969. First Edition. Fine / Dust Jacket Included.

First edition, first printing. Publisher's dark green cloth, lettered in gilt to spine, light purple top stain; in the original pictorial dust jacket designed by Stephen Russ. Fine book, with top right corner of front board lightly bumped; very good price-clipped dust jacket, with light age-soiling, light wear to edges, small puncture to rear spine fold, and two half-inch closed tears to bottom of rear panel. Overall, a well-presenting copy. Travels with My Aunt tells the story of the lackluster protagonist Henry Pulling, who lives an unexciting life as a bank teller until he is reunited with his Aunt Augusta, whom he has not seen in over fifty years. The free-spirited older woman is able to break Pulling out of his shell, and the two travel across Europe in a series of adventures filled with debauchery and self-discovery. Greene notably proclaimed that Travels with My Aunt, one of his most straightforward comedies, was "the only book I wrote for the fun of it." Item #GG052
