First edition, preceding the first American edition by three years and published in an edition of no more than 5000 copies. Original pictorial paper wraps. Signed with an endearing full page presentation inscription in Spanish to Sylvia Ripstein, translation: "For Sylvia, /of my heart, /when she loved me and /not that man; /with all my soul, /as before, /Gabo /198(?)". Ms. Ripstein is the sister of Mexican film director Arturo Ripstein who directed the adaptation of Marquez's book, "No One Writes to the Colonel." A good copy; spine and edges show wear, a few creases, large abrasion to rear cover (affecting some lettering). Housed in a handsome custom folding case.
