First edition, first issue with dedicatee's name misspelled ("Senart" for "Senard"). Two volumes. Original publisher's green cloth, covers paneled in blind, spines lettered in gilt, yellow coated endpaper. Extremities lightly worn and rubbed, hinges of volume I cracked and rear hinge tender, former owner bookplate of novelist and essayist, Louis Auchincloss, to front pastedown of volume I, volume II cracked at front hinge. A very good and unsophisticated set, and extremely scarce in the publisher's cloth. Housed in a custom folding case.
