First edition. Three volumes. Bound in contemporary quarter tan calf, spines lettered and decorated in gilt, marbled endpapers, rubbed and a bit worn at extremities, corners bumped. Light toning and occasional scattered foxing, top corners torn with shallow loss at pages 7, 9, 23, 163, 165, 201, 259 and 261 volume I without affecting the text, offsetting from bookmark to page to pages 12 and 13; front endpaper of volume II torn with some loss, upper corner of page 95 turn with some loss; marginal tear to page 403 of volume III. Overall, a good, tight and still attractive copy.
